Business Innovation and Digital Transformation

The Business Innovation & Digital Transformation Division collaborates with county departments to assess, test and pilot technologies that improve citizen experience as well as data-driven decisions and employee engagement. We also manage relationships and collaborate with vendors outside of the department on technology roadmaps.

Businesses undertake digital transformation and innovation in their business for a variety of reasons. They may want to meet the ever-growing demands of customers for responsiveness, speed or customization. They may also want to make more money by selling their products and services via new channels (such as social media, ecommerce, and mobile applications). A new leadership team may decide to change how the company runs. The need to innovate could be triggered by the desire to get rid of outdated systems, processes and technologies.

Whatever the reason behind the change, leaders must plan it carefully and take time to communicate it widely. They must set specific and measurable KPIs which are directly aligned with the transformation strategy and regularly report on them to assess progress. Uncertain KPIs or go now those that are not relevant can result in delays to projects, insufficient investment or failure.

It’s also important to include employees in the process of planning and implementation. Employees must feel that they are part the solution, since the changes will affect everyone. They should be encouraged, even if they fail to try new things in order to create an environment that encourages innovation.
